Outdoor Therapy

Outdoor therapy, also known as walk and talk therapy, is a form of therapy in which our session will take place in natural surroundings as we literally and figuratively walk together through the issues that have brought you to therapy.

Clients find that exercise, fresh air and access to daylight in the darker months improves mood and that the informal nature of the session lowers inhibitions which benefits the therapeutic connection.

Whilst the weather can at times be unpredictable, I have a large umbrella for the two of us and will continue to host sessions in all weather. Should you wish to revert to a video session or telephone session due to the weather, i will be happy to accommodate this.

Sessions take place in Heaton Park and cost £50 per session.

Video Sessions

Video sessions are conducted using Zoom and can enable you the client to access a therapy session from the comfort of your own home.

Video sessions are conducted in the same way that an in-person therapy session is conducted only with both parties interacting through video.

Clients have found that having the flexibility of being able to attend sessions from home has enabled them to access therapy in a way that can seamlessly fit in with their busy lives.

Sessions cost £50

Therapeutic Influences

Gestalt

Gestalt Therapy is an explorative and experiential therapy that aims to enhance the awareness, freedom and self-direction of a client. Taking a holistic view that people are intricately linked to and influenced by their environments, much of the focus is on the present moment and present context, seeking to identify and discover feelings that have been suppressed or masked by other feelings.

The approach does not discount or reduce the effects of the past or future responsibilities but in focussing on the present it helps to avoid dwelling on the past or anxiously anticipating the future. By helping people to focus more on immediate thoughts, feelings and behaviour clients can feel liberate and develop a self-confidence to find a new perspective on themselves, the way that they relate to others and help them to live their lives to their fullest potential.

A holistic approach will include exploring several facets of a client’s life including their environment, relationships, diet and sleep and how these may have a bearing on their mental health. Mindfulness techniques such as breathing and meditation are used in session and taught for use outside of sessions with an aim to promote self-care and kindness to the client.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is arguably the best known of the therapies as it is the most studied and recommended therapy.

CBT is a practical therapy that breaks down problems into smaller and more manageable issues before addressing each specific problem or individual emotion separately. Once the problems have been broken down the counsellor and client will explore the issues and challenge the thinking that is behind them.

CBT is a goal orientated therapy that can be challenging and direct and can often be a good place for a client who is starting out with therapy before moving towards more explorative therapies.
